Dia de los Muertos
Día de los Muertos (translates to Day of the Dead in English) is a traditional Mexican holiday which celebrates friends and family who have passed away. Festivities begin October 31st and continue until November 2nd. Día de los Muertos celebrates the lives of the deceased with food, drink, parties, and activities the dead enjoyed in life. It is believed that the souls of the dead return to visit loved ones and join in on the celebration.
The most noted symbol of the holiday are the painted calacas and calaveras (skeletons and skulls) which can be found in decorations, food and painted on faces. The celebration of Día de los Muertos has gained popularity around the world, particularly among Californians. We love the new twist on Halloween with bright colors and yummy food!
