Getting dressed after recently having a baby can be discouraging. Trying to feel sexy for Valentine's Day when you're a new mom - forget about it! Luckily there are plenty of trendy styles that work we’ll with a postpartum body, they’ll make you feel beautiful - and comfortable!

For each woman, the “problem areas” on our bodies after giving birth are different. For myself, instead of gaining the recommended 25 pounds during pregnancy, I gained 65 pounds - whoops!

My postpartum style challenges were hiding a tummy and weight gain in my arms. So opted for styles that had statement sleeves and a forgiving midsection.

There’s also a good chance that your little peanut will be joining you during your Valentine’s Day festivities. Some of my outfit recommendations are also nursing friendly!

The important thing is to find your confidence while you navigate through this new world of motherhood. It takes time to get your body back, and these style hacks will do the trick to ease the transition.

10 Outfit Ideas for a Postpartum Valentine's Day Date

Oversized Dress

Sometimes we need a little extra fabric to cover everything up, and that’s okay. It’s also super beneficial that oversized garments are all the rage right now. Wear your dress over leggings, pair with a long cardigan, add some flats, sneakers or low heels and voila!

Midi Skirt & A Sweater

Midi skirts are great for two reasons - they’re easy to wear and give you plenty of coverage. Style with a sweater and your look will be comfortable, trendy and warm.

Dresses & Tops with Sleeves

I mentioned above that hiding the weight gain in my arms was a priority for me during my postpartum days. For Valentine’s Day I wore a dress that had long and roomy sleeves. These days there are a ton of tops and dresses available that have full-coverage sleeves.

Maternity & Post-Pregnancy Jeans

Denim jeans can be tough after having a baby. I still wore my maternity jeans for several months after Scout was born. I highly recommend investing in quality maternity jeans that you’ll want to wear for both pregnancy and postpartum.

For Valentine’s Day you can pair your denim this long tunic tops to hide the stretchy waistband. Oversized sweaters will also pair well with maternity jeans.

Motherhood also sells Bounceback Jeans which are denim styles made specifically for women transitioning from pregnancy to postpartum. Awesome right!

Accessorize Your Outfit

Adding sweet and romantic accessories to your out can really brighten up your outfit and put you in the Valentine’s Day mood. Clothes may not be your friend during the postpartum days, but jewelry and handbags will always fit!

Sweet Sneaker Styles

Have you noticed that these days it’s hip to wear sneakers with pretty much every outfit? YAY! Sneakers are a postpartum gal’s best friend. So comfortable and there are so many style options.

Sneakers are also a great purchase for getting back into shape and exercising. Check out my complete guide to losing the baby weight in a healthy and fun way!

Nursing Tops & Dresses

As a new mom, your little sidekick probably comes along with you to most places. If you’re fortunate enough to have a babysitter for a child-free Valentine’s Day then congrats - enjoy it! If baby is coming along and you need to find nursing friendly wardrobe pieces, I recommend shopping online at H&M and Motherhood.

Comfortable & forgiving fabrics

Sometimes it’s the small details that can have the most impact. Case in point - stick to fabrics like cotton and rayon to give you comfort and coverage. The postpartum days may not be the best time to wear that slinky satin.

Skip the Red

If going with the traditional Valentine’s red is too bold for you, opt for whatever color floats your boat. Don’t feel like you are obligated to stick to old traditions. After all, it’s all about what makes you feel your best.

Low Heels & Flats

You may not be ready to step back into your stilettos just yet. There are so many trendy styles of flats, sneakers and kittens heels that are super cute and still very comfortable. The new Birdie shoes are all the rage right now because they are stylish flats that are also secretly very comfortable.

Add Layers

When all else fails… add a cardigan! After all Valentine’s Day does fall right in the heart of winter.
