Often times when we are embarking on a new endeavor, half the battle is getting our mind into gear and finding the ideal headspace to grow and thrive.

I personally was born with a natural tendency to lean towards pessimism and doubt. Whereas my husband is the opposite and always assumes the best scenarios will always play out. I believe there’s a happy middle point where you can take the best of both those perspectives and put them to work in an abundance mindset.

In this blog post I will be discussing the difference between a scarcity mindset and an abundance mindset and explaining how to harness both their powers into a manifestation action plan to achieve your goals and live a more joyful and full-filling life.

The Differences Between Scarcity Mindsets vs. Abundance Mindsets

 

Similar to how I explained above with myself and my husband, people generally fall into one of two categories - an abundance mindset or a scarcity mindset. They both have their pros and cons. If you are looking to go for a new opportunity, it is essential to understand both of these mindsets and, more importantly, to avoid their pitfalls.

 

The Cons of a Scarcity Mindset

Those who live with a scarcity mindset are people who tend to think that there just isn't enough good things to go around. They’re overly careful with what they have and unwilling to give or take calculated risks. They tend to overthink and assume the outcomes of chances will be negative, which can be paralyzing when it comes to grow and development. The fear of failure is so great that it impedes your ability to make strides forward.

A scarcity mindset in its most extreme form can be very harmful, making someone feel anxious and stressed on a regular basis. This can lead to not being able to enjoy the blessings in their life, always worried you’re about to lose them.

 

The Hidden Pros of a Scarcity Mindset

While everything I’ve listed above about a scarcity mindset is negative so far, there are some beneficial aspects to a healthy dose of skepticism. Being a natural skeptic myself, I tend to be really good at planning and coming up with alternative plan B’s in case my original plan A doesn’t work out.

I’m also much more likely to do a fair amount of research before I take any kind of risk, possibly saving myself from losing money or time. I’m also going to be on the lookout for any red flags or worrisome warnings, preventing me from going too far down a misguided path.

 

The Pros of an Abundance Mindset

The best way I know how to relate an abundance mindset is imagine someone who is relaxed and able to see all the opportunities clearly. Because all the negative obstacles are not blocking their field of vision, they have a wider perspective and more positive scenarios present themselves. This β€œblue skies” positive outlook makes the flow of problem solving easier, ultimately yielding better outcomes.

Another simplified way of putting it is this: if you look for problems you will find them. If you look for opportunities and solutions you will also find those. It really just depends on where you decide to spend your energy that will ultimately determine your level of success.

An abundance mindset allows you to embrace the fact that there’s endless amounts of positives in the world. Therefore when someone else has success or accomplishments, you don’t feel like it takes anything away from yourself. This completely nulls the feeling or jealousy or resentment because you know there’s still plenty left for yourself. Their achievements in no way negatively impact yours, rather they can compliment and uplift yours by association. Envy truly is a wasted and taxing emotion - let it go.

 

An Unexpected Con of an Abundance Mindset

I said a lot of great things about having an abundance mindset, but let’s play devil’s advocate for a moment. One of the positive traits of having an abundance mindset it that you enjoy the process of building and creating so much that you’re not overly preoccupied with the end result, because the joy was in the journey.

The idea is that if you’re too preoccupied with the results, they ultimately won’t come because you’re not trusting the process and learning how to do your best work. You may also not be taking risks due to fear of failure, and failure is how we learn and improve.

While that is all fine and dandy, not being proactive in outlining your own action plans towards reaching numbers and goals could be a missed opportunity. Outcome goals that are evaluated in numbers (such as number of sales, income, website traffic, social media following, etc.) can be great ways to benchmark growth. The important part is not to get obsessed or hung-up on your own numbers and the numbers of others.

This is just one example of how an abundance mindset could possibly be slightly misguided if you’re not using a small dose of a scarcity mindset as well.

How an Abundance Mindset Plays a Role in Manifestation

 

When you have an abundance mindset, you believe that ultimately everything will work out for the best. In this same ethos you are of the belief that you can create your reality by using your thoughts, emotions and actions.

Traditionally old world religions have helped people with faith and communities in church and temples. Many still find great benefits to being apart of Christian, Jewish, Buddhist, Hindi, Muslim and more communities.

The newest generations of youth and millennials have begun gravitating towards what I will call new age spirituality where they participate in new kinds of practices. These often include moon rituals, crystals, essential oils and smudging sage.

Faith is where people are able to refuel and nourish their souls. Both of these types of beliefs have their merits and can be incredible aides in mental wellness which contributes to an abundance mindset.

 

Gratitude Journaling

Some people like to go old school and take a pen to paper to put their feelings and emotions into words or drawings. The simple act of taking the time to recognize and reflect on our emotional state can be healing in itself. Use this time to set your intentions for the day and make a game plan for a productive and abundant day.
