Over 200 Fall Hashtags to Use for Autumn Themed Content Posts on Social Media
Oh fall, we love you most of all! While technically autumn is one of the four seasons, it really feels more like a mood. When the hot summer days begin to dwindle and you can begin to feel that cool crisp air coming in, it immediately puts you in the mood for all things comfy and cozy.
Content creators like myself really love creating fall-themed blog posts, photography and videos to try and capture all those little magical moments in the season. This hashtag guide is meant to accompany my blogger guide Fall-Themed Content Ideas for the 31 Days of Blogtober. If youβre creating amazing autumn content, of course you want the world to see it. Keep reading to see how hashtags can help to get your content discovered.
In this blog post I break up the hashtag categories into themed topics such as fall fashion, favorite fall foods, fall foliage, comfy and cozy, Halloween, Thanksgiving and more.
Learn How Using Niche Hashtags Can Help You Grow Your Social Media Following
How Exactly Can Hashtags Help Me Grow on Social Media?
Getting your content discovered by new audiences and growing your social media following is a big struggle for content creators, especially if youβre new to this world. One of the secret weapons to expanding your reach is by using extremely relevant and niche hashtags when posting your content.
Using the perfect grouping of hashtags in your posts is an excellent technique to increase the number of views, likes, and shares on your content. If someone really gravitates toward your content, they may also decide to follow you which is how you grow your following.
When someone is using hashtags to search, they are a truly captive audience to that subject. If youβve done an excellent job at both creating the content and using the most relevant hashtags, youβre setting yourself up for success.
What is a Hashtag?
A hashtag is a word or phrase with no spaces that begins with the hash sign # (formerly known as the pound sign on telephones). It's used within a social media post to help others who might be interested in your topic find it when they search for a keyword or a hashtag. It aids in highlighting your content for people interested in related subjects and welcomes participation in the forms of comments, likes, shares and following your account.
Mastering the hashtag provides you with a powerful approach to engage your audience and boost your social reach at no additional expense other than the time it takes to perform some research and keep up with trends.
What is a Niche Hashtag and How to Find Them?
The definition of niche means specialized and/or targeted for a very specific audience. Using hashtags that are considered niche means that you carefully research and curate your hashtags.
The way you identify these niche hashtags is you look for specific indicators of who the targeted audience is instead of large mass appeal. Niche hashtags also have a sweet spot of 50,000 - 1,500,000 posts when you look up the hashtag on Instagram . If your hashtags are too broad then your content can easily get lost in the large amount of content posted with the same hashtag.
Hereβs some examples of autumn themed niche hashtags:
#pumpkin vs #pumpkindecor
#halloween vs #diyhalloweencostume
#autumn vs #autumnoutfit
In order to find niche hashtags that fit perfectly with your content, try searching for them in Instagram to see what kind of content pulls up under that search. If you see content that fits your intended audience for that particular content, then you may have found a niche hashtag. Avoid hashtags that have several millions of posts because it is likely that theyβre too broad and not specific enough.
Can Emojis Be in a Hashtag?
Yes! A hashtag will still work with an emoji included within the characters. In fact, emojis can be very helpful in finding those helpful niche hashtags mentioned above.
Where Should I Put Hashtags in My Social Media Posts?
The answer to this question varies by the type of account. In Instagram it is common to see the hashtags in a comment instead of within the body of the main text. The hashtags will still work in the same way. You can also put them within and at the bottom of your main copy in the post.
In TikTok, Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest the hashtags need to be within the body of the text for it to work properly.
Whatβs the Maximum Amount of Hashtags You Can Put in a Social Media Post?
Hashtag tactics aren't one-size-fits-all, they differ for each social media platform.
Hereβs the breakdown:
The maximum amount of hashtags in an Instagram post is 30.
Only 10 hashtags are allowed in Instagram Stories.
On TikTok you are restricted to 500 characters but not the number of hashtags.
On Twitter your character limit is 280 but no hashtag limit.
Facebook posts allow over 60,000 characters but no limit on hashtags.
Pinterest Pins have a limit of 500 characters but no hashtag limit.
How Many Hashtags Should I Use in a Social Media Post?
On Instagram I usually put about 30 of the most relevant hashtags in the comments. For all the other social platforms I donβt suggest more than 5 because your posts can start to look spammy and uninviting. Keep it clean and simple by using the most relevant hashtags to your content.
When Should You Start Planning and Posting Autumn-Themed Content?
The fall season begins in late September and really goes into full swing by October. The days start getting shorter and the drop in temperature triggers cravings for warm comfort food and drinks. It also starts the process of switching over to fall fashion staples such as sweaters and boots. This would be the time when your audience begins expecting and seeking out fall-themed blog posts and social media posts.
If youβre in the habit of creating content calendars to plan out your content strategy, I suggest you start working on autumn post in early September so you have it ready to go during peak season.

Fall Foliage in Autumn
Fall foliage is the first category of hashtags on my list because it is truly one of my favorite things about the autumn season. I live in Sacramento and we are so lucky to be one of the few cities in the state of California that experiences very bright and colorful fall foliage. The leaves start changing color around Halloween and really reach their peak the week of Thanksgiving in November. The color palettes range from yellows, oranges, reds, browns and even deep purples.

The Autumn Season is Made for Comfy and Cozy Vibes
During the fall season we love all things comfy and cozy. The colder weather makes us crave hot bowls of soup, hot cups of tea and being bundled up in chunky knit sweaters. Basically an overall feeling of hygge. Included in autumn vibes are very specific aesthetics with color palettes of burnt orange, burgundy, mustard yellow and moody shades of gray. Images with these nostalgic aesthetics dominate social media all the way up until the holiday season begins.

Halloween is Our Favorite Spooky Holiday
Halloween is the celebration of everything that both scares and delights us. We dress in costumes depicting our favorite characters and take to the night streets collecting candy. For many Halloween is their single most favorite holidays, and for many more its a close second after Christmas. Either way, itβs a popular social media topic and has many trending hashtags.

Everything Pumpkin
If I had to pick one single symbol to sum up the autumn season it would be the pumpkin. During the fall months we eat pumpkins, we decorate our houses with pumpkins, we paint and carve pumpkins and we even make a special trip to the pumpkin patch to select the perfect pumpkin. Needless to say pumpkins deserve their own hashtag category!

Our Favorite Fall Foods
When the weather turns chilly and dark in the evenings, we crave special comfort foods to warm us up and nourish our souls. We also love an infamous aromatic spice blend of cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, ginger and all spice - better known as βpumpkin spice.β This is the time of year to pull out your crock pot to make butternut squash soup and hot apple cider. Yum!

Fall Travel Destinations
Travel during the fall season is very popular, especially to destinations where thereβs prominent fall foliage. In the United States some popular states and cities to visit during the months of October and November include Vermont, New England states, New York City, Yosemite National Park, San Francisco and Napa Valley.
Here in Northern California a very popular fall travel destination is Apple Hill. This large collection of family farms has activities such as apple picking in orchards, apple cider mills and pumpkin patches.
